The following items will be required to create wood burned unfinished wood furniture:
- Any unfinished wood furniture like chairs, tables etc.
- Wood burning tool
- Wood burning tool tip
- Painter's tape
- Pencil
- Paper
- Graphite sheet
Unfinished wood furniture can be found in most stores but if you are looking on a budget then why not have a look in the second hand stores. Unfinished furniture is already made so you don't have to waste time trying to put it all together. All you need to do is give it the finishing touches. Pine is the most common unfinished furniture and the cheapest too.
To wood burn, first choose a design. Take a larger piece of drawing paper. After laying the paper on the ground, lay the unfinished furniture on the floor on its back and trace the back or whichever portion of the furniture you would like to wood burn.
You now have a template for your design. Once the pre-drawn lines have been put into place you can use the graphite paper and a pencil to transfer the design from the drawing paper to the furniture. This can be done by taping the design to the furniture. Don't forget that you don't need to have the furniture upright all the time and that you can lay it on its front or side if you find that easier.
After plugging your wood-burning tool and heating it up, using the pre-drawn guidelines, begin engraving the unfinished furniture. Using the wood burning tool tip, trace out the design. You can add more details if you prefer. You can also use stencil designs if you like.
Once the wood burning is completed you should pally a coat of varnish or stain onto your piece of furniture. This will provide the design with a layer of protection so that it will keep for longer. You should leave the stain or varnish 24 to dry before moving your furniture. You should also put pieces of felt onto the bottom of the feet so that the furniture doesn't scratch the floor.
You can also give your unfinished wood furniture a coat of paint when you are done. The wood burning design will show through the coat of paint and will look fantastic. By finishing this furniture with a design of your choice you are creating a stylish and unique piece of furniture that will suit you home and make a real difference to your room.
