Affiliate internet marketing is a method by which a promoter/affiliate can earn commission by advertising a retailer's product/service through the internet. The following players are involved: the retailer; the promoter/ affiliate; and the visitor/customer. All transactions take place on-line and allows any product/service to be sold anywhere in the world. An affiliate markets a product/service and receives a commission on any sales he/she generates.

The affiliate traffic can be driven to their own site, where links to the retailer's product/service and website are displayed along with other affiliate products or to drive traffic to the retailer's website where the retailers copy encourages a sale. A number of these forms of marketing are mainly low cost, some, such as display marketing can be quite expensive as affiliates must soak up the cost for each click on their posted advertisement weather they convert to a sale or not.
