Attracting Customers With Your Website

by Chris Marks on November 23, 2009

It seems like only yesterday that the only people who bothered creating websites were those with spare time on their hands or "nerds". Nowadays a person who tries hard enough can do it but how well is another story.

You've probably seen a lot of websites that feature the single page layout that covers one subject, or even tries to cover multiple subjects by having line breaks every so often, without even trying to use a frame. This is okay for an individual, even if it is a bit questionable. It is not okay for a business to utilize this tactic.

There are many reasons for this not being a suitable tactic, the most obvious being you want to attract potential customers and not drive them off. A poorly laid out website will not keep people around, because they want a professional looking website that makes use of the latest technology available. Even if the latest technology is not implemented, it is still important for the website to be modern and easy to use.

Something you need to keep in mind when you design your website that is very important is to make sure it is easy to use for the customer. This means they should be able to navigate easily through it. They should have information available such as where to contact you or send a message. There is a standard mail to address format but it would be better to have a form they can fill in.

Generally a client, before he clicks, wants to see exactly where he is going and if they are provided with a dropdown menu with options it will make it that much easier to go where they want. Many users can be dissatisfied with websites that don't have these features available.

Your goal is to provide all visitors to your website with a pleasant experience and to do so you have to enable them to easily find what they were searching for before leaving. However, if your website is good enough then you might also manage to keep them interested enough to browse through the entire website and see all products or services being offered.

If you feel unsure about being able to build a website that meets all these requirements, then you will have to hire a professional website builder. There are many who are capable of developing great websites who will work for you, but that will cost some money. However, in the end it will be money well spent. Before hiring anyone it is important to check them out by seeing what work they have done before. Always ask for a portfolio so you can see some examples of functional websites that you can examine more closely.

Whatever you need built, it can be coded and deployed with the vast array of technology that is available today. So if you are just starting out, or if you need to improve your website, make sure you are up on the latest technology. It can make your business, or break it.
