Controlling The Auction House in WoW

You can control the auction house in WoW fairly easily if you know the formula for success. This formula applies to pretty much any virtual economy, in WoW or any other MMO, and can be used for total domination once you have the resources to do so. The steps are below:

1. Choose your niche and pick out the most profitable item available within that niche. This will vary from server to server, so you should probably take some time to observe how your niche functions to avoid wasting your time and gold. This is something that you will get better at with time, as you could fill a book with the criteria for judging this.

2. Once you've picked your item out, ensure that you have the gold to buy it out and to keep any competitors from driving prices down.

3. Relist the item in small quantities, creating the illusion of scarcity and driving people's desire to buy while simultaneously inflating the price of the item for increased profits.

4. Collect the gold from your inbox.

If you were clever about your niche selection, then that's pretty much all there is to it. The next step is to scale up by broadening your item selection within your niche, or moving into a completely different niche if that is the more profitable option. Either way, from here on out your are set to keep on expanding until you run out of characters to store the gold on.

If this isn't a daily activity for you, I'd suggest putting items up for 48 hours beginning Saturday morning, and doing most of your buyouts on Sunday evening when the weekend warriors put their items up at the reduced weekday prices, though your mileage may vary depending on your server.
