Fire Alarm Systems – Designed To Warn Someone Else About The Potential Danger

by Jason Williams on December 16, 2009

Your are probably concerned about the safety of your family more than anything else. Your concern for their safety is just as important in the house as it is out of it. You will do whatever you can to make sure they are safe at all times. Naturally you want to make sure that your homes fire alarm systems are in good operating condition.

Unfortunately if you are only using one of those small battery operated fire alarm systems then you are not providing adequate protection in the case of a fire. These small cheap systems are not effective at monitoring your home. Chances are that while you are concerned about your family's safety, you are also probably like most people and in your busy days forget to check and see if the battery in your fire alarm is still working.

One of the biggest problems is that we forget to change the little battery that powers these units. An a alarm that has a burnout battery will not be of any help.

The problem with these is that they do not work if there is no power. What this means is that if the power goes out and there is a fire then these units will not go off.

Other units are hard wired to the homes electrical system but also have a back up battery. These units have some of the same problems. However the biggest problem with all of these systems is that they are designed to warn the people that are inside the house that there is a fire. If you are trapped in the house with by a fire then an alarm going off won't do any good.

What fire alarm systems are designed to do is warn people of a fire. It only makes sense that this warning should be to someone who is not in the house. The units we have been discussing will only warn those that are standing outside the house watching smoke billow out the windows.

Fire alarm systems should bring the danger to someone else's attention. This is the purpose of monitored fire alarm systems; they are connected with a service that monitors all the systems associated with their company. This provides you with an eye and ear on the house 24/7/365. In the case of an emergency these services notify the local fire department. That is what fire alarm systems are designed to do, bring the situation to someone's attention that can provide help.
