Roof is the most vital part of the home, so it is every home owners duty to look after it. Periodic roof inspections are very essential but it is not always advisable to climb up the roof top to check it. This can be very risky as there are chances of falling. You should never try this out specially on metal roofs as they are very slippery and when the roofs are not clean like, when they are covered with leaves or snow etc.

Walking on the roof can be dangerous as well as can damage the entire roof structure. It can leave patches on a wet roof which can weaken the roof later on. You can have a roof deck installed for this purpose which is very convenient for roof inspections.

To inspect your roof you can either look at it through binoculars from the ground, or use a ladder for an up close look. From inside your attic you can also look for water stains that would indicate that your roof is leaking.

You can always consult a professional roofer for any of your home roofing related issues. They are expert people and can suggest you the most appropriate solution. If you have an asphalt shingled roof or a wooden roof, you can check for the following while inspecting it.

If you have an asphalt shingled roof, check the edges of the roof. See if the shingles are rounded or curled or flipped shaped. Look for worn out shingles or those who have lost gravel granules. It is always better to strip off the old roof before re roofing. It is a must for two layered roof. But if you have a single layered roof, you can add a new layer above it also.

For a wooden roof, check the corners of the shingles if they are curled or split. Do check the side of the roof which is more exposed to the harsh weather conditions like sun, rain, etc. by inspecting these areas you will come to know whether it needs replacement or not. Generally, a wooden roof last for approximately 30 to 40 years.

If you find a good amount of moss over the roof, check from inside the attic whether it is leaking through or not. Also, check the ridges. They should be well leveled otherwise can create problems.

Whatever roofing material you choose for your home, always make sure to get it installed by a professional roofing contractor. It is very important to get the roof installed properly as per the manufacturers specification. This reduce the chances of any major troubles later on and professionals are very well trained n this domain and can handle any kind of roofing task well.
