The Many Types Of Printers

Many people understand how hard it can be to decided on a new computer. They spend time researching their options, get the help of knowledgeable relatives, and ask store clerks for their recommendations. Well, just like with computers there are many options in printers. It doesn't have to be hard to understand their differences.

For today's consumer there are many different types of printers available. Within a reasonable price range you can purchase a laser printer, portable printer, multifunction printer, photo printer or even a simple inkjet printer. Because they are similarly priced, picking the right one is best determined by how you intend to use it.

A laser printer is the fastest printer available. They are great for those printing large amounts of black and white documents. A laser printer does not have expensive cartridges to replace. They use a single cartridge similar to a typewriter. They have superior quality and are definitely worth it for the medium to large office.

With more and more people having portable computers, it should not be a surprise that the printer has gone portable. A portable printer makes the laptop computer truly portable. Never again will the user have to return to a desk to print information.

Many consumers prefer to use multifunction printers because they do so much. These powerhouses will print, scan, copy and perhaps even fax. They are a great addition to any home office as they do the job of four office machines. For families, they give lots of functions for very little price. Although impressive, these printers are possibly the slowest available, and may not be the best fit for every user.

Another powerhouse but for a different reason is the photo printer. This type of printer produces excellent color, and nearly professional photos. They can usually be recognized by their large number of ink cartridges. They are not the fastest, and replacing the ink can be quite expensive. They are however an excellent addition to any computer user that does a lot of photography projects.

For many a standard ink jet printer will fit their needs. These printers use ink filled cartridges to print on a variety of surfaces. They are fast and affordable. Beware however because their price is in the ink. Because of the ink, those that print a lot of black and white may actually save money purchasing a laser printer.

Although there are many printer options, you can find the right one for you. Understanding your options is the first step.
