Tips For Working Your Home Marketing Business

by Dewayne Calfee on February 7, 2010

When most people think about starting a home based marketing business it is for the "I want to be my own boss and work whenever, where ever I want, write my own paycheck mentality" and that's exactly why most of us get into this business. But I want you to consider a few things about setting up your business.

Working from home has lots of perks. My personal favorite, no boss standing over your shoulder. You're no longer crammed into a tiny cubicle all day and there's no traffic to fight for the daily commute to and from the office. But even working from home there are things you must keep in mind.

Working from home requires a certain mind set and discipline. You really must have a daily routine. True, there's no one standing over your shoulder telling you when, how and why to get something done, but if you don't have a daily routine most likely the things that you should do, will not get done. Whether you want to work early in the morning, early afternoons or in the wee hours in the morning (my favorite time) it doesn't really matter as long as you stick to a routine.

Another consideration is having an "office" or a work space of your own. You really need a place where you can hang out the "working" sign and everyone else will respect that you would rather not be disturbed right now. If you are in your "office" but you are constantly being interrupted it's really no different than being in a crowded office setting. You really need to make it YOUR space. That brings up another great perk about working at home. You can make your office anywhere you want, when you want. It can be in the den, in a spare bedroom, out on the deck or sitting on the beach. If you have an internet connection, you can work from there!

These are just a few of the insights that I have learned along the way to building my own business and working from home. Hope you found them helpful.
